Planned closure of Stechford Post Office down to Labour10.49.34pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 7th Jul 2004 Nicola Davies who today visited Lower Stechford Post Office with Liberal Democrat Shadow DTI Minister Malcolm Bruce said "Labour are silent on the loss of so many Post Offices in Birmingham but they must not be let off the hook. If Labour wanted the Post Office to halt these closures it could do so at any time. I will fight the closure of any Post Offices. They are not just businesses, they are essential services." Malcolm Bruce MP said: "It's this sort of neglect and the loss of so many local Post Offices that shows that what local people need is a hardworking local MP such as Nicola Davies. What they don't need is another yes man for Tony Blair who will just vote for the closures." Lower Stechford Post Office is on the edge of Hodge Hill constituency and is used by local residents. The Post office has not yet announced which of the fourteen Post Offices in the Constituency north of the railway line it will close. It is expected that about one third will be closed down.
