Donald Kennedy born to Sarah and Charles Kennedy

Sarah Kennedy, wife of Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy has this morning given birth to Donald James in St Thomas' Hospital in London and weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces. The West Midlands Liberal Democrats have sent their congratulations to Sarah and Charles.

Mrs Kennedy said she felt "fantastic" and said her husband had been a "real support" during the birth. Charles Kennedy said he would rejoin the election campaign later this week with a "spring in his step". Mr Kennedy has told reporters: "Everything went tremendously smoothly. We are very grateful and fortunate about that. And we are exceptionally happy with the new Donald James Kennedy that becomes the latest addition to the clan. I think he's our pride and joy."
