John Hemming, Liberal Democrat MP for Birmingham Yardley is writing to the RAC foundation and leaders of the fuel lobby to invite them to discuss how this country should handle the imminent peaking of world oil production.

Mr. Hemming said "In November I will be bringing together a summit to consider further the impact of energy shortages. I shall be inviting people such as the RAC foundation who recently said that motorists should cycle more. I shall also invite representatives of the fuel protesters because their objective is one of people being able to afford live their lives. In a society with constrained fuel production it is unfair to simply ration availability by price."
