Hypocritical Cameron has shoe chauffeur - so much for Tories going green

8.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 29th Apr 2006

Tory leader David Cameron has a shoe chauffeur, who carries his shoes and papers in his chauffeur-driven Lexus from his home to Westminster while Mr Cameron cycles. Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said: "This makes a nonsense of David Cameron's commitment to cycling as the most environmentally friendly way of getting to work. If every one with green leanings now needs a shoe chauffeur the environment will be ruined. "As a matter of urgency, I will personally buy and deliver to Mr Cameron a pannier for him to put over his back wheels so that he can cycle to work while leaving his shoe chauffeur at home."

The environment has been high on the Tory agenda ahead of next week's local elections, with the party using the slogan "vote blue, go green". Mr Cameron has been much-photographed cycling to Parliament on his mountain bike but he forgot to mention the gas-guzzler following behind with his shoes!
