5.15.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 12th Oct 2006

Postcomm has urged the Government today to make "tough and overdue decisions" on the future of the nation's 14,000 post offices. Ed Davey, Liberal Democrat spokesperson said "This damning criticism of ministers over post offices by an independent watchdog is unprecedented. With over 5,000 post offices in danger of closing according to these figures, we now have a crisis of unprecedented proportions. We will be leading the parliamentary campaign to call for action before it is too late."

The Liberal Democrats have an opposition day debate on Post Offices on Monday next week
