Wealth gap growing under Labour

10.45.52pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 29th Nov 2006

During Prime Minister's Questions today, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader, Vince Cable MP attacked John Prescott for the growing income and wealth gap since Labour came to power.

Dr Cable asked "Can the Deputy Prime Minister help us to interpret the comments of the Prime Minister on Monday to regional journalists, that people in the North should worry less about the North-South divide in regional inequalities despite the evidence from the Treasury that regional inequalities on growth remain as significant as ever?"

Dr Cable also asked if John Prescott could "explain the fact that under the Labour Government income and wealth inequalities have been worse than they were after 17 years of Tory Government."
