Karen Hamilton at St Basils Sleep Out

Councillor Karen Hamilton joined the Sleep Out to raise money for St Basils and thanked all those who donated.

Lib Dem Councillor Karen Hamilton was among those who joined the Sleep Out on Friday 5 December 2007 to help raise money for youth homelessness charity St Basils.

At the Digbeth site alone, 440 people registered, and St Basils are contacting the Guinness Book of Records to see if a World Record has been set.

Speaking after the sleep out, Karen Hamilton, tired but happy, said: "Thanks to everyone who said they will sponsor me and to those that have donated directly to St Basils."

"This year's sleep out was a lot drier that last year. We only had a few showers but it was really windy. Some shelters did not survive the wind but there was help on hand from fellow rough sleepers. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress visited and this lifted morale."

"I was impressed with the number of young people who were taking part especially as they stayed for the whole night. "

(Karen Hamilton is a councillor for the Perry Barr Ward and the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Birmingham Perry Barr constituency.)
