Standing up for Palestine

Concerns about human rights, particularly for those around war torn Gaza, have been heartfelt. This continues to be a significant issue for many people in the city who want to see peace and a two-state solution.
This week in Parliament, Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey said: “The world is looking on in horror as Netanyahu's Government plots to lock Gaza's entire population into effectively a giant prison.
“The Prime Minister should make it clear that the UK won't stand idly by, starting by sanctioning Netanyahu himself.
“David Lammy must realise that we’re past the point of threatening sanctions. Every day the Government sits on its hands, more innocent civilians are being killed in Gaza while over a million are at risk of starvation.
“Sanctions are needed now, including against Netanyahu.
Councillor Baber Baz said “As councillors, we are not able to influence the national government on how they respond to the crisis, but as residents coming together, we can continue to make our voices heard.”
“Just as many of you have been devastated by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, we too are deeply affected by the harrowing scale of human suffering. The death toll has now surpassed 50,000 — with over 45,000 Palestinians killed, the majority of them women and children, according to credible international sources.”
There can be no lasting peace without justice, and no justice without accountability. This is not a time for silence. We will continue to speak out and act in support of international law, human rights, and the freedom of the Palestinian people. We urge the UK Government to do the same—to uphold the rule of law, to work with international partners, and to help bring an end to the cycle of violence and suffering.
Justice and peace must prevail.”
